Stanford, Ca - Darren Fernandez scored in the second overtime to lift the second-ranked Stanford men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over San Jose State in a non-league game Thursday night at Harry Maloney Field.
A Johanes Maliza goal at 36:48 of the first half gave Stanford a 1-0 lead, but at 75:39 of the second half San Jose State's Tony Chang cashed in on a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1.
Neither team scored during the remainder of regulation, and in the first overtime.
Fernandez scored the winning goal, his sixth of the season, when he took a pass from Mike Wilson and fired the winning shot into the right corner of the net from nine yards away past Spartan goalkeeper Eddie Dominguez.
Stanford upped its season record to 9-1-0 while San Jose State fell to 4-6-0.
