Stanford, Ca - The ninth-ranked Stanford Cardinal and the eighth-ranked California Golden Bears men's soccer teams battled for 90 minutes in regulation and two ten-minute overtimes, and the verdict was a 0-0 tie in a Pacific-10 Conference game on a cold Friday night before a crowd of 1,832 fans at Harry Maloney Field.
Stanford outshot California, 11-8, including four good shots in the first half, and one each in the first and second overtimes, respectively.
In a four-minute span of the first half, three shots by Darren Fernandez, Johanes Maliza and Matt Janusz sailed wide of the Cal net.
The Golden Bears collected only one shot in the first half, but produced six shots in the second half. Two of the shots were by taken by Angel Quintero, who fired both shots high of the Stanford net at 34:09 and 31:44.
Stanford produced a good shot with 6:30 in the first overtime when Roger Levesque drew a free kick. Cal goalkeeper Josh Saunders made the save of the game when he knocked the ball away on a hand save off a shot from Todd Dunivant.
In the second overtime at 4:58, Taylor Graham headed a ball that went wide of the Cal goal off a free kick from Dunivant.
Robby Fulton played the entire 110 minutes in goal for the Cardinal to earn his sixth shutout of the season. Saunders collected five saves. He also played the entire game in goal for the Golden Bears.
Stanford now is 11-3-2 overall, and 2-2-2 in the Pac-10. California is also 11-3-2 overall, but 4-1-1 in the conference.
