Fifth-Ranked UCLA defeats Ninth-Ranked Stanford, 1-0, in Pac-10 Game

Stanford, Ca - UCLA's Cliff McKinley fired a rocket shot past Stanford goalkeeper Robby Fulton at 56:48 of the second half to provide the only goal of the game as the fifth-ranked Bruins men's soccer team shutout Stanford, 1-0, on Sunday in a Pacific-10 Conference game at Harry Maloney Field.

McKinley took a pass from Chad Davis, and fired the shot into the right corner of the net. McKinley's shot was only one of six shots taken by the Bruins in the 90-minute contest.

Stanford took 10 shots, seven in the first half. Three of those first-half shots were near misses as Roger Levesque missed a shot just wide of the Bruin net at 15:10; Johanes Maliza missed wide left at 2:50; and a header by Taylor Graham at 1:13 that was saved by Bruin goalkeeper Zach Wells.

UCLA produced two excellent scoring chances in the second half, the first on a direct shot by Davis, but saved by Fulton at 31:31, and then a shot that sailed wide of the net by Evan Corey.

Stanford also had its chances in the second half, but could not cash in as the Cardinal fell to 12-4-2 overall and 3-3-2 in the Pac-10. UCLA continues to lead the conference with a 7-2-0 record, and 12-3-2 overall.
