Box Score

Corvallis, Or - The Stanford men's soccer team, ranked ninth in the nation, scored three unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 victory over Oregon State in a Pac-10 game on Friday at Lorenz Field.

Darren Fernandez opened the game's scoring when he took a centering pass from Johanes Maliza and split two defenders to put a shot past Oregon State goalkeeper Peter Billmeyer from 10 yards out for a 1-0 lead at the 8:04 mark.

After an OSU goal by Alan Gordon, Maliza put the Cardinal ahead for good in the 34th minute when he corralled a loose ball in the middle of the box and sent it home for a 2-1 advantage.

Down 2-1 in the 58th minute, OSU committed a foul on its own right wing that setup a Stanford free kick. Before the kick however, Todd Dunivant and Maliza were issued yellow cards for stalling violations.

Following the short delay, Dunivant sent a kick to the far post that was tapped in by James Twellman to make it 3-1.

Fernandez added the final score off a Matt Janusz cross in the 63rd minute.

Stanford upped its season record to 13-4-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the Pac-10. Oregon State fell to 12-7-0 overall and 3-6 in the conference.

Sunday, the Cardinal travels to Washington a 2:00 p.m. Pac-10 game.
