Box Score

Seattle, Wa - Todd Dunivant scored on a penalty kick in the 103rd minute to lead the ninth-ranked Stanford men's soccer team over the Washington Huskies, 2-1, in both teams' regular season finale at Husky Soccer Field on a windy, cold Sunday.

The Cardinal got on the scoreboard first in the 54th minute on Sean Whalen's first goal of the season. Dunivant served a through pass up the middle to Whalen, whose 18-yard shot from across the box to the far left corner of the goal got past Washington goalkeeper Daniel Waltman.

The Huskies scored the equalizer with just four minutes left to play in regulation. Artie Bartholomew fired a shot from about five yards after receiving a free kick serve from Gavin Hobbs.

Washington outshot Stanford, 5-4, in the first half and 9-8 in the second half, but the Cardinal held a 3-0 shot advantage in overtime. And it was a Husky foul in the box that set up the game-winning penalty shot attempt for Dunivant at the 102:07 mark.

Stanford keeper Robby Fulton tallied four saves. Darren Fernandez led the Cardinal with four shots.

The victory upped Stanford's season record to 14-4-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the Pac-10. Monday, the NCAA Tournament pairings will be announced, and the Cardinal is hoping to be one of the top seeds in the 2002 tournament.
