Stanford, Ca - James Twellman scored his first two collegiate goals to leadsecond-ranked Stanford to a 5-0 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday night at Harry Maloney Field.
It was the season opener for both teams.
Twellman, a sophomore, scored the game's first goal at 32:22 in the first half, and added a second goal at 75:48.
Mike Wilson added two goals at 44:03 and 51:12 for Stanford.
Goalkeepers Andrew Terris and Robby Fulton combined on the shutout. Each player collected two saves.
Stanford's victory was the fifth straight over the Hornets dating back to the 1996 season.
"It was a good start," said Cardinal head coach Bret Simon. "Sacramento State kept us on our heels early in the game, and it took a little while to get our rhythm."
Stanford hosts the Bay Area Classic on Sept. 6-8. Stanford will play eighth-ranked SMU on Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m., and Portland on Sept. 8 at 2:30 p.m.
