Top-Ranked Stanford Averts Upset To Defeat St. Mary's

Moraga, Ca - The top-ranked and unbeaten Stanford men's soccer team received a scare from underdog St. Mary's, but posted a 1-0 victory on Sunday at the adidas Cal Legacy Classic at Garaventa Field.

Stanford scored when Taylor Graham's shot was blocked by a St. Mary's defender. However, the ball bounced off the defender and into the St. Mary's goal to give Stanford the 1-0 lead.

Stanford outshot the Gaels, 14-5. The Cardinal now is 5-0-0 while St. Mary's falls to 1-4-1.

Sophomore goalkeeper Robby Fulton recorded his second shutout of the season.

Roger Levesque, who scored a goal and added three assists in the Friday win over Denver, was named to the all-tournament team along with Mike Wilson and Johanes Maliza.

Stanford travels to the Dartmouth Tournament on Sept. 21-22. The Cardinal will face Richmond on Sept. 21 (noon, et) and Dartmouth the next day at 2:30 p.m. et.
