Unranked Tulsa Hands Top-Ranked Stanford 3-1 defeat

Stanford, Ca - The Tulsa Golden Hurricane knocked the top-ranked Stanford men's soccer team from the ranks of the unbeaten with a convincing 3-1 victory on Friday night at the Nike Invitational at Harry Maloney Field.

Stanford jumped to a 1-0 lead at 3:57 of the first half when Darren Fernandez scored his third goal of the season. Todd Dunivant was credited with the assist when he crossed a pass to Fernandez who headed in the ball past Tulsa goalkeeper Brent Salter.

Fernandez' goal was the only score of the first half. In the second half, Tulsa dominated play, scoring three goals. Two of the goals were scored by Ryan Pore, who had entered the game as the team's leading scorer. Pore scored his sixth of the year at 54:46, and then followed with his seventh goal at 82:35. Tulsa then iced the game at 87:30 when Kyle Brown scored his third goal of the year past Stanford goalkeeper Andrew Terris.

Stanford fell to 7-1-0 while Tulsa upped its season mark to 6-2-0.

The Nike Invitational will continue on Sunday (Sept. 29) when Stanford hosts Santa Clara at 2:30 p.m. At noon, California plays Tulsa.
