Women's Crew Take Five out of Six Races

April 19, 2003

Redwood Shores, Calif. - The Cardinal women had a solid performance today taking two of three races from Oregon State and all three races from Sacramento State. The #4 ranked Stanford varsity eight started the day off right by racing to a 3.8 victory over #15 Oregon State. The crew grabbed a three second margin at the 1000 m mark and then gained slightly over the second 1000 m.

The second varsity eight had their best race this season by jumping on OSU early and continued to pull away the rest of the race. Head Coach Aimee Baker states, "This second varsity really put together a good race today. We expected a close race and they handled the situation very well."

The Varsity Four, racing together for the first time in this lineup, controlled the race early leading to the 1300m mark. The Cardinal could not fight off the charge from OSU losing by a 2.5 second margin.

After a short break Stanford raced Sacramento State and defeated all three boats by decisive margins.

The Stanford Women race USC Sunday April 27 at the Port of Los Angeles. Race times TBA.
