Santa Cruz, Ca - Matt Moser led a parade of ten scorers as the Stanford men's water polo team scored a decisive 22-4 victory over UC Santa Cruz in the season opener for the Cardinal on Sunday afternoon.
Moser, a junior from Sacramento, scored two of his game-high four goals in the second period as the Cardinal exploded for seven goals to take a 12-2 halftime lead against the Banana Slugs.
Greg Crum, Thomas Hopkins and Peter Varellas each added three goals. Hopkins scored two of his goals in the seven-goal explosion by Stanford in the second period.
Chad Taylor, a sophomore from Alamo, started in goal and responded with four saves in two periods of play. Freshman Beau Stockstill added three saves in one period of play while redshirt freshman David Carlson played the fourth period and responded with one save.
Stanford returns to action on Sept. 20-21 at the Southern California Tournament in Irvine.
