STANFORD, Calif. - Santa Clara downed the No. 23 Stanford women's soccer team 2-0 in the Stanford/Nike Invitational on Friday at Maloney Field. The loss drops the Cardinal record to 5-4-1 this season.
The Broncos came out strong in the first half, scoring two goals in the first 24 minutes of play. The first came on a free kick off a foul kick from Santa Clara's Tina Estrada to teammate Marian Dalmy inside the box at 17:33. The score marked the fifth for Dalmy this season.
Bronco Lauren Zealear made good on a low pass from Megan Kakadelas in the 23rd minute of play for SCU's other score. Santa Clara held Stanford to seven shots, led by Amy Grady with two attempts. The Santa Clara victory improved its season record to 5-3-3.

In the first game of the evening, Loyola Marymount defeated Texas Christian 3-0. After a scoreless first half, the Lions opened the second period with a score from Kelly Lewandowski at 48:11 on an assist from Laura Trask.
LMU also tallied scores in the 75th and 77th minutes of play by Shari Nishikawa and Trask, respectively. Loyola Marymount's defense allowed only one shot from TCU while notching 18 attempts.
