Seattle, WA - The Stanford Cardinal fell to the Washington Huskies, 3-1, Friday night in Seattle, WA. The loss dropped the Cardinal to 2-13-2 on the season and 0-8-0 in Pac-10 play, while the Huskies improved to 10-2-2 and 3-2-1 in conference action.
Stanford, who has now lost a season-high eight games in a row, snapped a six-game scoreless streak with its 3-1 loss versus Washington.
Things looked good for Stanford early on, as the Cardinal jumped on the board in the ninth minute of the game. Darren Fernandez scored his third goal of the season, taking a pass from James Twellman at the 8:23 mark, and slipping a shot past Washington goalkeeper Danny Waltman.
Washington wasted little time, retaliating with a goal of their own less than a minute later. Ty Harden headed the ball past Cardinal goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen off of a corner kick C.J. Klaas.
The Huskies added one more goal in the first half when Troy Ready received a cross from Brett Wiesner to make it 2-1, Washington.
Washington capped the scoring midway through the second half when Ready scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute.
Stanford tallied 13 shots compared to 17 by the Huskies. Fernandez and Matt Janusz paced the Cardinal with four shots, while Marcus Ryan added three. Kartunen recorded six saves in the loss.
The Cardinal travel to Corvallis, OR on Sunday in search of their first conference win of the season. Kick off is scheduled for 1:00 pm (PT).
