Cardinal Fall to Oregon State In Overtime, 3-2

Corvallis, Ore. - The Stanford Cardinal lost an overtime thriller versus Oregon State, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in Corvallis, OR. The loss drops the Cardinal to 2-14-2 and 0-9-0 in Pac-10 games. The Cardinal have now lost a season-high nine straight games. The Beavers improved to 12-4-0 overall and 6-1-0 in conference play.

For the second consecutive game, the Cardinal struck first scoring at the 25:18 mark. James Twellman's third goal of the season gave the Cardinal a 1-0 lead. From 20 yards out, Twellman blasted a shot past Oregon State goalkeeper Peter Billmeyer.

The Beavers would knot the score at 1-1 in the 35th minute. On a corner kick from OSU's Ross Duncan, Evan Findley scored on a header, slipping the ball past Stanford goalkeeper Andrew Kartunen.

The two teams went into the looker room tied at 1-1. The Cardinal were aggressive in the first half, out shooting the Beavers 11-7 in the opening stanza.

Oregon State grabbed a 2-1 lead just three minutes into the second half on Ryan Johnson's second goal of the season. Oregon State's Nick Donaldson crossed to the far post to Johnson, who fired a shot back across the net past Kartunen.

The Cardinal fought back, netting the tying goal in the 84th minute. Abe Geiger scored an unassisted on a loose ball in front of the OSU net. The goal was the second on the season for Geiger.

Midway through the first overtime period, the Beavers' Robbie Findley scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute. Duncan served a long ball up the right side to Findley who beat Kartunen on a one-on-one breakaway.

The overtime contest was the Cardinal's fourth of the season. Stanford is now 1-1-2 in overtime matches this season.

Stanford takes a break from conference play, making the short trip to San Jose State on Thursday for a 2:00 pm (PT) contest.
