Stanford-UC Davis Football Post-Game Quotes (September 17, 2005)

STANFORD

Head Coach Walt Harris
"UC Davis came ready to play four quarters tonight. Our football team wasn't the same team they were last weekend (against Navy). We're going to work hard to help them improve. We had some injuries, but injuries are part of the game. We have to find a way to get it done. We have a lot of work to do. We need to do a better job of getting our players to believe in what we're trying to do, and then they need to do it. We were inconsistent and had bad down AND distance. The defense played well. The job of the defense is to shut (the opponent's offense) down and then the offense has to score more than the opponent."

UC DAVIS

Quarterback Jon Grant
(On what he told his team before the final drive)
"What better stage could we be on. We're at Stanford Stadium. Let's play."

Assistant Head Coach Fred Arp
"To hold them to 180 yards, double their yardage. I've been here 39 years and nothing compares."

"We knew we couldn't match up with them size wise, but I knew that we were quick, and we play extremely hard. We talked about it all week, it doesn't matter what happens to the offense. We're going to play our game, and we did. The kids responded great. We threw everything we've got. We give people different looks and come at them from different angles."

(On giving up two offensive touchdowns)
"We warned them that could happen, we're playing a Pac-10 school at their place. Just keep fighting."
