Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's soccer team fell to nationally-ranked UCLA, 1-0, in overtime this evening at Maloney Field. The Bruins improve to 11-3-2, 6-1-1 Pac-10 while the Cardinal are now 4-10-2, 1-6-1 Pac-10.
Both teams were held scoreless through two periods of play with UCLA taking eight shots in regulation while Stanford had six.
Early in overtime, UCLA's Brad Rusin had a shot on goal off of a corner kick that went off the crossbar. While players jockeyed for the ball in front of the net it was Bruin Maxwell Griffin who finally connected about three yards out to find the back of the Stanford net at 91.56. Patrick Ianni and Jordan Harvey were credited with assists on the goal.
UCLA net-minder Eric Reed had four saves on the night as did Stanford goalie Andrew Kartunen.
Stanford closes out the regular season on Sunday against San Diego State at 1 p.m. at Maloney Field.
