Stanford Blanks Vanderbilt 2-0 At Cal Tourney

Berkeley, Calif. - Cardinal Marcus Ryan notched a goal and an assist to help the Stanford men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Vanderbilt this afternoon at the adidas Cal Legacy Classic in Berkeley. It marked the Cardinal's first win of the season as they improve to 1-2-1 overall. The Commodores drop to 2-2 on the year.

Stanford got on the board first when Marcus Ryan's penalty kick found the back of the net in the 33rd minute of play.

Teammate Galen Thompson got into the action, scoring in the 55th minute off of a pass from Ryan.

Freshman goalie Josh Nesbit had eight saves on the afternoon to record his first collegiate shutout in net. Vanderbilt outshot the Cardinal 16-7 for the game.

Stanford is back in action against Santa Clara on September 16 in Santa Clara at 7:30 p.m.
