Jan. 30, 2006

For their second meet of the 2005-06 season, Stanford traveled to Texas to compete against The University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio. The Cardinal synchro team swam to victory, 102-83, in a superb early season performance.

Stanford took an early lead by capturing first and second in the opening trio event. The routine featuring Samantha Bongiovanni-Duclos, Elizabeth-Anne Markman, and Courtenay Stewart finished first; Poppy Carlig, Melissa Knight, and freshman Erin Bell secured second with a strong swim.

The duet competition underscored the Cardinal team strength, as powerful routines again earned them the top two places. Sara Lowe and Stewart placed first, and Bongiovanni-Duclos and Carlig captured second.

Stanford soloist Sara Lowe capped off the individual events by winning the solo competition with a stunning performance.

The competition concluded with the team event where again the Cardinal shined, securing the top spot. Stanford's lineup of Bell, Bongiovanni-Duclos, Carlig, Knight, Lowe, Markman, Stewart, Hilary Homenko, and alternate Katie Norris captured the gold with a score of 92.8.

The Cardinal squad will travel to Florida next weekend to compete against the University of Florida and Florida State University.
