The Stanford Synchronized Swimming team traveled to Arizona this weekend to compete in the Western Regional qualifying meet. The Cardinal squad secured an undefeated regular season with a victory in the final competition before Collegiate Nationals.
Stanford took an early lead with two medals in the trio event. Samantha Bongiovanni-Duclos, Elizabeth-Anne Markman, and Courtenay Stewart performed to creative and technical choreography to claim gold with a score of 91.0.Stanford's Poppy Carlig, Melissa Knight, and freshman Erin Bell performed with exuberance and superb synchronization to secure second place with an 88.2.
Sara Lowe and Courtenay Stewart swam to first place in the duet competition a stunning performance. The duo completed a routine that featured their exceptional strength and ability to earn a total score of 92.3. Finishing second with an 89.0, Samantha Bongiovanni-Duclos and Poppy Carlig had their most lively and matched performance of the season. Sara Lowe captivated the audience with her powerful and passionate solo swim to earn a gold medal with a score of 91.3.
Stanford ended the competition with a bang in the final team event. The lineup of Bell, Bongiovanni-Duclos, Carlig, Knight, Lowe, Markman, Stewart, Hilary Homenko, and alternate Katherine Norris captured the gold with a sharp and inventive routine, earning a score of 92.7.
Having completed an undefeated regular season, Stanford Synchro enters final preparations for the highly anticipated Collegiate National Championships.This year's Collegiate Nationals will be held at Stanford, March 23rd-25th.The Cardinal squad looks forward to defending their collegiate title in front of home fans!
