Two Upsets Shake up the Field for the Men's Quarterfinals

Stanford, Calif. - The top three seeded teams in the NCAA men's tennis championships advanced through today's Round of 16 and onto the quarterfinals, but two teams seeded in the top seven were upset.

No. 1 ranked Georgia advanced with a 4-0 win over unseeded Notre Dame while second seed Pepperdine advanced with a 4-0 win over Florida and No. 3 Texas advanced to tomorrow's play with a 4-1 win over Mississippi.

The biggest upset of the day came when host Stanford, the 13th seeded team, beat fourth-seed Duke 4-0. No. 10 UCLA surprised No. 7 Illinois 4-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Other seeded teams moving on include No. 5 Baylor, a 4-1 winner of Washington, No. 6 Ohio State, a 4-0 winner over North Carolina, and No. 8 Virginia, which beat No. 9 Miami 4-0.

The men's tournament continues on Sunday, May 21 at Stanford's Taube Tennis Center with four quarterfinal matches. Ohio State will take on Texas at 10:00 am, Pepperdine will face UCLA at 1:00 pm, Stanford and Baylor will hook up at 3:00 pm and Georgia will play Virginia at 6:00 pm.

Also on Sunday, the women's tournament continues with two semifinal matches: USC vs. Miami at 9:00 am and Stanford vs. Florida at noon.
