The seven top seeds who won their first round matches won again today, advancing to the Round of 16 and earning All-America honors ... No. 1 Audra Cohen survived a scare from Stanford's Whitney Deason who came within two games of a major upset ... Miami's Cohen ended with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 win to move on to Friday's competition ... Eight of the remaining 16 players are from Pac-10 schools, with four Stanford players still going, along with two each from USC and UCLA ... Baylor also has two players remaining Zuzana Cerna and Zuzana Zemenova ... The winners of the last three NCAA Singles Championships are both still in the draw, with Zemenova (2005) and Liu (2003 & 2004) advancing to Friday's Round of 16 ... TCU's Nicole Leimbach, who won the first national title of the season, the Riviera/ITA All-American Championship, was knocked out of the bracket today by VCU's Tatsiana Uvarova, 6-2, 6-0.

The first round was less volatile than the men's bracket, as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds both advanced to the Round of 16, but the third-seeded pairing of Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson from Notre Damefell in three sets to Luana Magnani of Lindsey Nelson Southern California and fourth-seeded Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek of New Mexico dropped a three-set match to Kim Coventry and Carolina Escamilla of Kentucky ... Stanford's Alice Barnes and Anne Yelsey, the No. 1 seed, trailed a set and were even at 5-5 in the second before winning eight of their next nine games against Ashley Bentley and Robin Stephenson of Alabama to advance to the second day of doubles ... Only one of the 5-8 seeded teams lost, as Florida duo Whitney Benik and Alexis Gordon upended Melissa Anderson and Elsa O'Riain of Harvard, 6-4, 6-0 ... Southern California is the only team with two doubles teams left in the draw, as Magnani and Nelson were victorious and Dianne Matias and Carine Vermeulen knocked off the Clemson pair ... The Pac-10 has five pairs remaining while the ACC has four pairs still competing.
