Stanford, Calif. - Kevin Forrest and Raphael Cox each scored a goal to lift the Washington Huskies to a 2-0 victory over the Stanford Cardinal this evening at Maloney Field. UW improves to 9-4-0 on the year and 2-4-0 in conference play. Stanford drops to 5-5-3 overall and 3-1-1 in the Pac-10.
Neither team scored in the first half but Washington took the first shot in the 13th minute when Stanford goalie made a save on a shot by Ely Allen. Stanford had a chance in the 21st minute as Cardinal Dan Shapiro got a look at the goal but UW's Rylan Hawkins made the stop.
Moore would make his second save of the game in the 29th minute on a shot by Washington's Kevin Forrest.
The Huskies came out aggressive in the second half and Forrest would finally find the back of the net in the 51st minute when he headed a ball in from Raphael Cox off of a Washington corner kick.
Moore proved resilient in goal as he once again made a save on Washington's Forrest in the 52nd minute. Three minutes later Moore posted his fourth save of the night on a shot by Allen.
UW kept the pressure up and in the 88th minute, Allen connected with Cox who skirted up the middle to beat Moore and score his third goal on the season.
Stanford came right back as Evan Moore took a shot on goal but was stopped by Hawkins.
On the night, UW outshot the Cardinal 10-3 over 90 minutes of play. Moore record four saves for the Cardinal, while Hawkins posted two.
Stanford is back in action on Sunday at noon against Oregon State at Maloney Field.
