Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie this afternoon against CS Fullerton in double overtime at Maloney Field in the closing round of the Nike Invitational. The Cardinal sit at 1-3-2 overall while the Titans are now 2-2-1.
Stanford got on the board first with their aggressive play in the first half. Cardinal Evan Morgan received a pass from Kyle Hency in front of the net, blasting it by the Titan keeper, Brent Douglas in the 14th minute of play. It is Morgan's second goal of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper John Moore made two solid saves in the the first half on shots from the Titans to help Stanford take a 1-0 lead at the half.
CS Fullerton tied up the game in the 77th minute on a goal by Eugene Brooks from Matt Sanders. The Titans were playing a man down after Michael Farfan received a red card in the 74th minute. With traffic in front of the net Brooks recorded Fullertons' tying goal.
Both teams played aggressively in the two overtimes with the Cardinal taking three shots on goal.
Michael Brown and Thiago Sa Freire led the team with two shots each. Bret Shimizu, Dan Shapiro, T.J. Novak, Kyle Hency and Evan Morgan each tallied a shot on the afternoon for the Cardinal.
Moore ended the day with three save for Stanford.
Each team recorded four corner kicks while the Cardinal outshot the Titans, 9-6.
