Stanford, CA - Stanford women's lacrosse had 16 players named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) All-Academic team on Wednesday. In all, 54 MPSF student-athletes were recognized for their efforts both on the field and in the classroom. The Cardinal led all six schools, while Cal had 14 selections, Saint Mary's and Oregon garnered eight selections each, and UC Davis and Denver each had six players selected.
Seniors Michelle DeChant, Bryanne Gilkinson and Rachel Dyke, juniors Katharine Fox, Ariana Parasco, Daphne Patterson, Megan McClain, Alicia Soto, Bri Ned and Laura Shane, and sophomores Bis Fries, Polly Brown, Melissa Vogelsong, Maris Perlman, Bess Siegfried and Jamie Nesbitt garnered All-Academic selection for their performances both on and off the field.
DeChant made her third appearance on the team, qualifying each year in which she was eligible. Dyke, Fox, Gilkinson, McClain, Ned, Parasco, Patterson and Shane all earned their second consecutive All-Academic recognition, following the Cardinal's 17 selections in 2006.
To be nominated, student-athletes must 1) have a 3.0 or better cumulative grade-point average, 2) be at least a sophomore academically, 3) have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received, and 4) have competed in fifty percent or more of the institution's competition in the student-athlete's respective sport.
