The Stanford men's soccer team (4-3-5, 1-1-2) dropped a 2-0 decision this afternoon against San Diego State, suffering its first Pac-10 loss of the season. The Cardinal attempted six shots, with two of them on goal, while the Aztecs scored two goals on nine shots. Both goalkeepers made two saves on the day.
San Diego State struck quickly in the first half, scoring in the eighth minute. Aztec attacker Khadim Diouf found the back of the net off a header pass from five yards out to put San Diego State up 1-0. Daniel Leon had Stanford's only shot on goal in the half, but was unable to beat San Diego State keeper Jorge Rosales. Stanford managed three shots in the half, but was unable to punch one in, as the score went to halftime with the Cardinal trailing 1-0.
Once again, the Aztec offense came out of the locker room ready to play as they managed to score after only one minute had expired in the second half. San Diego State's Evan Toft crossed the ball into the box as Kraig Chiles was able to get underneath the pass and fire a shot into the goal making the score 2-0. Stanford once again attempted three shots in the half, with T.J. Novak putting one on frame only to have the Aztec keeper make the save. The Cardinal was unable to capitalize in the second half as the game ended with a score of 2-0 in favor of San Diego State.
Stanford will be back in action on Saturday, October 20 as they head to Berkeley, CA to take on the Golden Bears at 2:00 p.m.
