La Quinta, Calif. - Entering the day in third place, the eighth-ranked Stanford men's golf team posted the tournament's lowest third round (284) and roared back to finish second in the 16-team field at The Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. today. The Cardinal concluded the event with a 54-hole total of 2-under par, 862 (285-293-284), eight strokes behind top-ranked Charlotte, who took home the title with a 10-under, 854 (281-285-288).
The runner-up finish marked the Cardinal's third time in the top-five this year, and was the highest finish for the Cardinal this fall. Stanford took third at the Topy Cup and fifth at the Fighting Illini Invitational earlier this season.
Rounding out the top five for the two-day tournament were Central Florida (+5, 869), Pepperdine (+12, 876) and TCU (+12, 876).
Sophomore Jordan Cox led the way for Stanford, turning in a 2-under, 214 (71-73-70) to tie for eighth, the best finish of his career. Cox began the day in 15th, and shot his best round of the event (70) in the final round to earn the first top-10 finish of his collegiate career.
Senior Rob Grube (70-74-72) and sophomore Joseph Bramlett (72-70-74) both carded a par, 216 to finish 11th individually. Junior Dodge Kemmer (72-78-69) also recorded a top-25 finish, tying for 23rd (+3, 219) after turning in the team's lowest round of the tournament in the third round (69). Freshman Sihwan Kim (73-76-73) tied for 32nd with a 6-over, 222 to round out the Cardinal players. Minnesota's Clayton Rask and Wisconsin's Dan Woltman took top medalist honors at 8-under, 208.
Freshman Steve Ziegler (77-72-73), competing as an individual in his first collegiate tournament, tied with Kim for 32nd with a 6-over, 222, and junior Daniel Lim (75-75-75), also competing as an individual, tied for 54th with a 9-over, 225.
Stanford continues fall play in Florida, competing in the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational next week. Play begins Sunday and continues through Tuesday at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla.
