Stanford men's soccer (4-4-5, 1-2-2) dropped its match this afternoon 1-0 against No. 24 California (8-4-1, 3-2-0) in Berkeley, Calif. The Cardinal fired seven shots in the match, with two of them on goal, while the Golden Bears recorded nine shots and netted the only goal of the game. Stanford goalkeeper John Moore made three saves in the match, compared to two saves for Stefan Frei of California.

The Cardinal attempted four shots in the first half, two of them off the foot of Bobby Warshaw. Stanford's best opportunity in the first half came off a shot from Kyle Hency, but the Golden Bear keeper was in position to make the save. California went on the offensive and managed to sneak a shot passed goalkeeper Moore in the 29th minute. The goal came off a cross from Servando Carrasco into the box as Pat Marion was able to settle the ball and score on a short range shot. Warshaw ended the first half with a shot that went wide, as Stanford went into half down 1-0.

In the second half, Stanford attempted three shots. Daniel Leon recorded the only shot on goal in the half for the Cardinal, but the California keeper was able to make his second save of the game to preserve the 1-0 lead. Stanford keeper John Moore made two saves in the period to keep the game close, but the offense was unable to find the back of the net as the Cardinal fell the California 1-0.

Stanford takes a week off before getting back into action Friday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m. as they host UCLA. They remain at home to face No. 25 San Diego State on Sunday, November 4 at 2:30 p.m.
