STANFORD
Stanford's victory over USC its first over a No. 1 ranked team since the Cardinal won 36-31 at Notre Dame on October 6, 1990. The UCLA, 38-28, at Stanford Stadium on October 27, 2001.
Stanford snapped a five-game losing streak to USC dating back to its last victory over the Trojans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on September 29, 2001 (21-16).
Stanford's victory snapped two USC win streaks that were both Pac-10 and school records as the Trojans had won 35 straight home games and 24 straight Pac-10 home games.
Stanford caused five USC turnovers (compared to just one committed by Stanford), including four interceptions that were the team's most in a game since also picking off four versus Oregon State on November 13, 2004.
Austin Yancy returned the first interception of his career 31 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to end Stanford's string of scoreless quarters against the Trojans at six dating back to the fourth quarter of a game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on November 5, 2005. The interception was the first one Stanford returned for a touchdown in 2007.
Chris Hobbs returned two punts for a career-high 47 punt return yards. Hobbs' 29-yard punt return in the first quarter was the longest of his career and the longest for the Cardinal since David Marrero returned a punt for 64 yards against Oregon State on November 13, 2004.
Mark Bradford caught a season-high five passes, including the game-winning TD with 0:49 to go in the contest, for a season-high 87 yards. Bradford also had his longest catch of the season with a 37-yard reception late in the third quarter that put the ball on the USC 1-yard line and set up Anthony Kimble's 1-yard TD run on the first play of the fourth stanza.
Clinton Snyder forced the fifth fumble of his career and his second this season in the third quarter. Snyder also had a season-high-tying 10 tackles and now has 29 tackles in his last three contests.
Nick Sanchez recovered a fumble for the third time in his career and the first time this season in the third quarter.
Pannel Egboh blocked the first kick of his career when he knocked down David Buehler's second quarter extra point attempt, while also recording career-highs of 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks (-11 yards) and 2.5 tackles-for-loss (-13 yards). The 2.5 tackles-for-loss are the most by a Stanford player in 2007.
Jay Ottovegio punted eight times for 343 yards (42.9 avg.) and has updated career totals of 230 punts for 9376 yards. Ottovegio is within reach of both school records currently held by Kevin Miller (1995-98) with 248 punts for 9973 yards.
Tavita Pritchard made his first career start at quarterback, completing 11-of-30 passes for 149 yards with one interception and the game-winning touchdown pass. He also had the longest pass of his career with a 37-yard completion to Mark Bradford late in the third quarter.
Anthony Kimble led the Cardinal in rushing for the fourth time in five games this season with 32 rushing yards on 17 carries.
Nick Macaluso made a career-high six tackles.
Austin Yancy made a career-high five tackles.
Stanford made good on both of its fourth down conversion attempts on its game-winning drive after being 0-for-5 on the season prior to that.
USC's eight penalties and 80 penalty yards are the most by a Stanford opponent in 2007.
Stanford tied a season-high with 17 red zone points, scoring two touchdowns and a field goal in three trips inside the USC 20.
Stanford recorded 4.0 sacks and now has more sacks (16.0) than it did all of last season (14.0).
Pannel Egboh (17), Chris Horn (17), Jim Dray (16) and Anthony Kimble (12) all extended double-digit starting streaks.
