The Stanford men's soccer team (6-5-5, 3-3-2 Pac-10) dropped a 1-0 decision to Oregon State this evening in Corvallis, OR. Despite out-shooting the Beavers ten to eight, the Cardinal was unable to put one into the back of the net. Stanford keeper made five saves in the game, while Oregon State's keeper recorded four.
The first half came and went with little action, as only six shots were attempted between the two teams. The Beavers had the most opportunities to take the lead in the period as they required Cardinal keeper Moore to make four saves to keep the game knotted at zero. Stanford put on shot on frame, but Oregon State keeper Deenihan was in position to make the save as the game went to the half with a 0-0 score.
Oregon State started quickly in the second half as Robby Christner passed the ball through to Morgan Zeeno who fired a shot from 17 yards out into the back of the net, giving the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Stanford turned on the offense as they attempted eight of their ten shots in the period, but once again was unable to capitalize on the chances. Deenihan of Oregon State was able to make saves on all three of the shots on goal to help the Beavers to a 1-0 victory.
