Box Score

The Stanford men's soccer team (6-6-5, 3-4-2 Pac-10) fell to Washington (8-7-2, 3-4-1 Pac-10) by a score of 4-2 this afternoon in Seattle, WA. The Cardinal out-shot the Huskies 13 to seven, but Washington was able to make the most of their opportunities as all four of their shots on goal found the back of the net.

Dan Shapiro led Stanford with three shots in the game, while Ryan Thomas, Kyle Hency, and Shaun Culver each recorded two shots in the match. Goalkeeper John Moore recorded four saves in his 79 minutes played.

Washington started quickly in the first half as Ellis McLoughlin received a pass and fired a shot from the top of the box, beating Stanford keeper Moore to the lower left corner and giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. Less than six minutes later, Ely Allen scored his ninth goal of the season to give Washington an early 2-0 lead. Stanford was determined to keep the game close as Daniel Leon crossed the ball to the top of the box, where Culver booted a shot past the keeper in the 34th minute, bringing the Cardinal within one score at the end of the half.

Once again, the Washington attack was able to get a quick goal at the beginning of the half (49th minute) as Allen took a pass down the left flank and scored from the top left of the box for his second goal of the game, lengthening the Husky lead to 3-1. Washington wasn't done yet, as Matt Van Houten was able to chip the ball over the goalkeeper after a long cross from the left in the 60th minute, running the score to 4-1. Stanford continued to create opportunities and managed to punch one in as Alex Kozachenko fired a shot from short range in the 80th minute, bringing the Cardinal to within two goals. Unfortunately for Stanford, they were unable to complete the comeback, as the final whistle blew with a final score of 4-2 in favor of Washington.

The Cardinal play host to No. 19 California on Saturday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the final regular season game of the year.
