San Martin, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team is tied for fourth after the first day of action at the CordeValle Collegiate at the CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, Calif. The Cardinal shot a three-over par 363, and was led by senior Rob Grube's two-under 70 in the opening round.
UCLA leads the field with a seven-under 353, just one stroke ahead of second place Coastal Carolina (-6, 354). Texas A&M is in third place after shooting a par 360 to open the tournament, and the Cardinal and fifth-ranked USC are in a tie to round out the top-five.
Grube's 70 paced the Cardinal, and the three-time All-American stands in a four-way tie for fourth going into tomorrow's second round. Sophomores Jordan Cox and Joseph Bramlett are tied for 17th with a par 72, while freshman Sihwan Kim is tied for 34th with a two-over 74. Junior Dodge Kemmer rounds out the Cardinal players in a tie for 44th place at three-over 75. UCLA's James Lee holds a three-stroke lead in the individual race, after shooting a seven-under 65 today.
Junior Daniel Lim and freshman Graham Brockington are competing as individuals for Stanford. Lim is tied for 59th place at seven-over 79 and Brockington is in 71st at 18-over, 90.
Play continues tomorrow at 8 a.m. at the CordeValle Golf Club. The final round is set for Wednesday morning.
