Nov. 9, 2007

Box Score

No. 5 Stanford Women's Soccer controlled most of the game against Oregon on Friday night in Eugene, but was unable to score and played the Ducks to a 0-0 tie. Erica Holland recorded her fifth shutout of the season and third since coming back from injury two weeks ago. The Cardinal moved their record to 13-2-4 on the season and 4-1-3 in Pac-10 play.

The Cardinal shot early and often in the first half out shooting the Ducks 11-2, but couldn't figure out Duck goalkeeper Jessie Chatfield. Stanford also took five corner kicks in the first half, while holding the Ducks to only one for the entire game. The Cardinal also got six of their shots on net, but all were eventually saves by Chatfield.

The second half was even more dominant for the Cardinal, as they out shot Oregon 10-0, but still was left tied at 0-0. Freshman Christen Press led the Cardinal with five shots and eight other players recorded multiple shots. The Cardinal defense also let Holland have an easier time in net, with the senior goalkeeper not having to record a save and only face three total shots in the 110 minutes.

Overtime was also fruitless for the Cardinal, also out shooting Oregon 3-1 in the two ten minute overtime periods. It was the ninth shutout of the season for Stanford.

Head Coach Paul Ratcliffe was disappointed with the result, but still upbeat heading into his season finale. "We played very well, but unfortunately weren't able to find the net," said Ratcliffe. "We created a lot of opportunities to score a goal, but unfortunately we weren't able to convert, I am still happy with the way our team played."

The No. 5 ranked Cardinal will finish their regular season on Sunday against Oregon State in a match that will begin at 11:00 a.m. The game will be played in Corvallis, Ore.
