STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- Candice Wiggins scored 16 points and No. 6 Stanford won its 11th straight, beating Arizona 69-46 on Thursday night.
Kayla Pedersen added 18 points as the Cardinal (23-3, 12-2 Pac-10) stayed within a game of conference leader California. Jayne Appel matched her own school record with her 61st blocked shot of the season. The sophomore center had 12 points, 11 rebounds, a team-high five assists and a career-high four steals.
Ify Ibekwe led the Wildcats (9-15, 3-10) with 16 points and Arizona coach Joan Bonvicini coached in her 900th game. Amina Njonkou had 14 points. Ashley Whisonant, the second leading scorer to Wiggins in the Pac-10, was held to eight points on 2-of-10 shooting.
Ibekwe, who wears a brace on her left knee, was knocked to the floor late in the game and clutched the protected knee.
Stanford played its second game without starting forward Jillian Harmon and once again used a three-guard alignment to start the contest.
Wiggins' 16 points now leave her 75 points shy of the Pac-10 career scoring record, currently held by USC's Lisa Leslie (2,414).
The Cardinal missed their first eight shots -- six of them 3-point attempts -- of the second half before Appel hit a putback and a free throw for a 37-20 Stanford advantage with 17:15 remaining. Wiggins hit a 3-pointer less than a minute later and the Cardinal remained comfortably ahead the rest of the way.
Stanford hosts Arizona State on Saturday afternoon in the Cardinal's "Think Pink" game, serving to support research and raise breast cancer awareness.
Wiggins, who celebrated her 21st birthday, converted a putback with 3:27 left in the half to give Stanford a 32-18 lead at intermission. The Wildcats failed to score in the final 5:40 of the half.
