WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - The Stanford men's golf team shaved off 12 strokes from the previous day's score for a total of 263 in the second round of the UH-Hilo Invitational at the Waikoloa Village Golf Course in Hawaii. Today's performance catapulted the Cardinal into first place with an overall score of 538. Stanford will aim to carry their lead into tomorrow's third and final round.
Rounding out the rest of the top five are Arizona State (543), USC (544), Texas Tech (546), and Georgia Tech (547).
Incredible individual performances helped Stanford's jump to the top, as all five Cardinal golfers are in the top third of the leaderboard (out of 90 total golfers). Senior Rob Grube and freshman Sihwan Kim are currently in a four-way tie for third with Arizona State's Stephan Gross and Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale. Grube shot three-under-par and Kim shot seven-under-par.
Freshman Steve Ziegler improved his score today by ten strokes, after shooting a five-over-par 75 yesterday. Ziegler is currently tied in 31st with sophomore teammate Jordan Cox, to round out the last of the Cardinal golfers.
Arizona State's Jesper Kennegard overtook the lead from teammate Gross today, shooting a seven-under-par 63 today. He shares the lead with USC's Jamie Lovemark, at 131 strokes apiece.
