WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - The No. 10 Stanford Cardinal earned their first tournament crown of the season, retaining their second-round lead from yesterday and taking the UH-Hilo Invitational today at Waikoloa Village Golf Course in Hawaii. The Cardinal finished 16-under-par and shot 813 over three rounds, three strokes ahead of second place finishers No, 46 Arizona State and eighth-ranked USC.
Teammates Rob Grube and Sihwan Kim, ranked No. 65 and No. 20, respectively, each finished 11-under-par, shooting 199. They were second only to Arizona State's Jesper Kennegard, who took the individual victory by two strokes.
No. 102 Jordan Cox tied for 26th place with seven other players, and shot an even-par 210 for the tournament, and teammates Daniel Lim and Steve Ziegler tied for 34th with three others, shooting one-over-par 211.
Georgia Tech was a distant fourth place, with 824 strokes overall, and Texas Tech rounded out the top five with 829 total strokes.
The Cardinal will return to action when they will head to southern California on March 3 to participate in the Ashworth Collegiate Invitational in Westlake Village, Calif.
