Mar. 20, 2008
NCAA Tournament First Round
Anaheim, Calif.

Making its 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Stanford improved to 20-14. Prior to today, the Cardinal was winless in its last three NCAA Tournament contests with its most recent victory coming in the form of a 71-45 triumph over Texas-San Antonio back on Mar. 18, 2004.

Stanford's 27 victories rank fourth-best in school history, matching the 1999-2000 squad that finished 27-4. The program record for most wins in a season is 31, established during the 2000-01 campaign.

17 of Stanford's 27 victories have come by double-digits, including nine in a row to begin the year. The Cardinal has won nine games by at least 20 points.

Stanford improved to 3-0 on the year against Ivy League opponents, having also defeated Harvard (111-56 on Nov. 9) and Yale (72-61 on Nov. 20).

Today's 77-53 victory is Stanford's largest NCAA Tournament win since a 71-45 victory over Texas-San Antonio on Mar. 18, 2004.

Kenny Brown (18 points on 6-8 shooting) scored in double-figures for the fifth time this year.

Stanford has outrebounded its opponents 28 times this year, posting a 23-5 mark under those circumstances. The Cardinal held a commanding 47-25 edge against Cornell on Thursday.

The Cardinal is 6-1 following a loss this year and has lost back-to-back games only once.

Stanford dished out 20 assists on 31 buckets.

Sophomore Drew Shiller (12 minutes) and freshman Josh Owens (10 minutes, seven points) came off the bench to make their NCAA Tournament debuts.
