STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 11 Stanford men's golf team finished fifth upon completing the fourth and final round of the 2008 Pac-10 Championships today at The Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The Cardinal shot a 24-over-par 1,444 on the par-71, 6,686-yard Championship course, while second-ranked Southern California and No. 29 Arizona State tied for first place with a 15-over-par 1,435. The Sun Devils took the team championship by winning a tie-breaker on the 18th hole, 21 to 23.
Senior Rob Grube, ranked No. 68 in the country individually, was the top player for the Cardinal in the tournament, tying for third place with California's George Gandranata and Arizona State's James Byrne, shooting a one-under-par total of 283. Grube recorded an even-par 35 on the front nine today, and shot a two-over par 73 to finish out the tournament.
Two other Cardinal golfers occupied the top-25 of the leaderboard, as sophomore Jordan Cox tied for 21st with USC's No. 15 Rory Hie with a six-over-par 290, and No. 16 freshman Sihwan Kim finished in a three-way tie for 24th with Arizona's Tarquin MacManus and Oregon's Derek Sipe with an eight-over-par 292. Freshman Steve Ziegler, who aced the 11th hole in the second round, tied for 27th with four other golfers, shooting a nine-over-par 293.
Rounding out the top five, California finished third with an eighteen-over-par 1,438 strokes, and No. 3 UCLA finished fourth, one stroke behind Cal. Individually, UCLA's sixth-ranked Kevin Chappell tied for first place with Arizona's Creighton Honeck with a three-under-par 281. Honeck took the individual crown by besting Chappell by one stroke, 3 to 4 on the tiebreaker at the 10th hole.
Stanford will await the NCAA tournament field to be announced to find out where and when they will next be playing in regional competition.

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 11 Stanford Cardinal slipped to a 22-over-par fifth place slot on the leaderboard upon the conclusion of the third round of the 2008 Pac-10 Championships today at The Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. Stanford struggled, shooting a 25-over-par 380, giving them a total of 1,087 strokes for the tournament. Second-ranked USC regained the top spot on the leaderboard, shooting plus-four today to give them a total of two-over-par 1,069.
Senior Rob Grube, individually ranked at No. 68, had the best day for the Cardinal, shooting a one-over par 72, putting him in a five-way tie for second with a total of three-under par 210. UCLA's Kevin Chappell is the the sole golfer in the top spot on the leaderboard with a four-under par 209.
In second place behind the Trojans is No. 29 Arizona State (+6), in third - California (+14), and in fourth - third-ranked UCLA (+16).
Stanford has one more round, the fourth and final outing of the Pac-10 Championships, to make a run for the conference tournament title. The fourth round will begin at 8 a.m.

STANFORD, Calif. - After two rounds of play on day one, the No. 11 Stanford men's golf team is in first place at the 2008 Pac-10 Championships at The Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The Cardinal are currently three-under-par, shooting a two round total of 707 on the par-71, 6,686 yard course. Also, senior Rob Grube is in a four-way tie for first place, shooting a four-under-par 138.
The second-ranked Southern California Trojans jumped out to a huge lead in the first round, shooting a 17-under par, 338, but struggled in the second round shooting 19-over-par, allowing Stanford to overtake the lead upon the completion of the second round.
Consistency has been Stanford's strength in the first day, as they had the least amount of stroke difference between the two rounds of any team at the tournament. They shot five-under-par in the first round and two-over par in the second.
Four Cardinal golfers are in the top-20 on the leaderboard, including Grube, who tallied nine birdies on the day. Freshman Steve Ziegler is in a four-way tie for eighth, shooting a two-under-par 140, and notching an ace on the 11th hole in the second round. Sophomore Jordan Cox is in a five-way tie at 12th place, shooting a one-under-par 141, and junior Dodge Kemmer is in a five-way tie for 20th, shooting a one-over-par 143.
The Cardinal will play the third round tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m., and the fourth and final round on Wednesday, also beginning at 8 a.m.
