CORVALLIS, Ore. - Bobby Warshaw tied the match with a penalty kick in the 34th minute and John Moore made a game-preserving save during Stanford's 1-1 double-overtime draw at Oregon State on Sunday.

The result was notable for Stanford because it came on the back-end of a two-match in three-day road trip, a difficult undertaking in the Pacific-10 Conference, and because it halted a four-match losing streak.

"Sundays on the road are very tough games," Stanford coach Bret Simon said. "I thought both teams fought very hard, which is especially difficult after a game on Friday. So, to play with that effort and heart, especially with the bad things that have happened, was encouraging."

Stanford (2-5-2, 0-1-1) had lost four consecutive matches on late second-half goals, including a 1-0 loss at Washington on Friday night.

But, this time, it was Stanford that scored the crucial final goal. Oregon State (3-5-3, 0-1-1) took the lead on a low 18-yard strike by Danny Mwanga in the 20th minute.

But it wasn't long before Stanford drew even when Ryan Thomas was taken down by a defender in the penalty area and Warshaw converted the spot kick for his team-leadinng third goal of the season.

It was Warshaw's second penalty try of the season, after an earlier one was saved against Drake, and came in a first half played partly in a rain shower.

Sophomore defender Shaun Culver got his first start since the second match of the season and performed well along with the other members of the back four - Tim Jones, Ryan Imamura and Thomas.

Moore played every minute, as he has all season, and made a spectacular overtime save in which he dived backward to parry away a long cross that seemed destined to loop over his head and into the net. He had four saves.

Stanford nearly scored on an overtime scramble, but ultimately had to settle for the single point.

"We had a lot of good sequences and showed our fitness in the overtime," Simon said. "I never thought I'd be happy with a 1-1 draw."
