STANFORD, Calif. (AP) - Anthony Goods led four Stanford players in double figures with 21 points and the Cardinal remained unbeaten under first-year coach Johnny Dawkins with a 111-66 victory over Texas Tech on Sunday night, the second-worst defeat in Red Raiders history.
Landry Fields added 19 points and eight rebounds, Lawrence Hill had 17 points, seven boards, five assists and four steals and Stanford (9-0) extended the program's best start to a season since opening the 2003-04 campaign with 26 straight victories. Josh Owens contributed 12 points and seven rebounds as the Cardinal scored their most points this season and most since also getting 111 in a win over Harvard last season.
Mike Singletary had 13 points and six rebounds and D'walyn Roberts added 11 points for Texas Tech (9-4), which came out cold and struggled to get open looks against Stanford's stingy man-to-man defense. The Red Raiders suffered a 58-point pounding by Kansas last March for Tech's worst loss ever.
Mitch Johnson dished out eight assists to go with eight points and four steals for the Cardinal. Stanford's final nonconference game is Tuesday at home against Hartford, so the Cardinal very well could be undefeated heading into the beginning of Pac-10 play. They will have a tough first test against No. 20 Arizona State on Jan. 2 in Maples Pavilion.
Stanford is picked to place ninth in the conference after losing the 7-foot Lopez twins - Brook and Robin - early to the NBA after reaching the NCAA regional semifinals last season. Yet so far the team has looked far better than some experts envisioned - and this marks the first time since 2000-01 that it has recorded two 100-point games in the same season.
The Cardinal made nine of their first 12 shots on the way to a quick 20-6 lead 4 minutes, 46 seconds into the game - causing Texas Tech coach Pat Knight to call timeout. Stanford, which survived for a 62-61 win over the Red Raiders on Dec. 22, 2007, led 57-34 at halftime and just built on that cushion in the second half.
The Red Raiders had won two straight after losing back-to-back games for the first time this season, at Lamar and at UTEP, but never got in sync long enough during this game.
Rogdrick Craig, the son of former San Francisco 49ers star running back Roger Craig, had four points for Texas Tech. Teammate Corbin Ray left the game with an apparent left leg injury with 12:43 remaining.
Leading scorer John Roberson, averaging 16.3 points coming in, was held to six points on 2-for-8 shooting but passed for nine assists.
Texas Tech dealt with foul trouble all night. Guard Nick Okorie was whistled for his fourth foul with 4:02 remaining in the first half, then Alan Voskuil fouled out with 8:44 to play and .
The Cardinal shot 51.3 percent in the first half, another strong opening stretch for Stanford as it also had two games shooting 53 percent in the initial 20 minutes, another 55-percent effort and one game at 52 percent.
