Track And Field Earns Six More All-Americans On Final Day Of NCAA Indoor Meet

College Station, Texas - The Stanford track and field teams completed a successful NCAA Indoor meet on Saturday. The Cardinal finished the meet with every athlete who competed earning All-America honors.

The Cardinal men finished 11th overall with 19 team points, while the women finished tied for 12th with 14 team points. The Oregon men won the title with 54 points, while the ladies from Tennessee took home the women's crown with 42 points.

The 3,000 meters was the event of the day for Stanford. The men had two athletes compete, while the women had three.

The women led things off by placing three runners in the top eight, all scoring team points. Senior Lauren Centrowitz finished third with a time of 9:14.35, earning her seventh All-America honor of her decorated career at Stanford.

In seventh place was freshman Laurynne Chetelat with a time of 9:16.12. Chetelat earns her first All-America honor of her young career. The Stanford rookie that was the top runner for most of the cross country season finished just fractions of a second ahead of teammate Alicia Follmar.

Follmar finished eighth with a time of 9:16.48. Follmar is now a four-time All-American for Stanford. Both Follmar and Centrowitz also earned All-America honors for their fourth place finish on Friday evening as members of the distance medley relay.

Elliott <!>Heath and Chris <!>Derrick


The men showed their outstanding young talent with a pair of freshmen placing in the top five. Elliott Heath, a redshirt freshman, finished third with a time of 7:54.59. The finish gives Heath his first career All-America honor. His brother Garrett Heath who will conclude his Stanford career during the upcoming outdoor season is an eight-time All-American for the Cardinal.

Finishing fifth was true freshman, Chris Derrick with a time of 7:56.31. Derrick who placed fourth in the 5,000 meters on Friday night, earned his second All-America honor of the meet and third of his young career. He also was an All-American in cross country after placing seventh at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

The other Stanford athlete to compete on Saturday was Myles Bradley in the 60-meter hurdles. Bradley earned his first career All-America honor after placing fifth. Bradley ran a time of 7.85 seconds, which was off his own school record of 7.71 seconds. The Stanford junior scored four team points for his finish.

The results on Saturday conclude the 2009 indoor season for Stanford. The Cardinal again showed their national prominence with two top-12 team finishes. Next up for Stanford is the outdoor season, beginning with the Stanford Invitational on March 27-28 from Cobb Track and Angell Field.
