2008-09 ACWPC All-Academic Awards Get Acrobat Reader

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's water polo placed 10 student-athletes on the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Awards list. In addition to the 10 student-athletes honored due to their success in the classroom, the Cardinal also posted a team grade-point average of 3.28, which tied for third-best among the men's programs in the nation.

Junior Sage Wright led all Cardinal honorees by earning "Outstanding" status with a 3.83 grade-point average.

Six Stanford representatives were listed in the "Superior" category: senior Will Hindle-Katel (3.69), redshirt junior Jimmie Sandman (3.62), sophomore Jeffrey Schwimer (3.49), freshman Jacob Smith (3.69), redshirt sophomore Cody Wiesen (3.57) and senior Steven Wright (3.45).

Rounding out the Stanford representation on the All-Academic List were senior Chris Jacobson (3.30), freshman Peter Sefton (3.21) and redshirt sophomore Will Smith (3.36).

Stanford went 25-6 in 2008 and reached the championship game of the National Collegiate Championship while ending the season ranked second in the nation. Five Cardinal student-athletes earned All-America honors from the ACWPC for their performance in the pool: Wright and Sandman were each named to the First Team, brothers Drac Wigo and Janson Wigo were each named to the Second Team, while Hindle-Katel earned honorable mention recognition.
