STANFORD, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Stanford men's golf team finished out competition at its own U.S. Intercollegiate today, taking fourth place with an 11-under-par 829 performance. Eighth-ranked Washington scorched the course for a 36-under-par 804 to take the title by 15 strokes.
Sophomore Steve Ziegler shot three-straight under-par rounds to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place with 202 strokes (-8). Ziegler birdied 14 holes over the three rounds and also added an eagle on No. 16 in the final round. His best score of the tournament came in the second round, when he shot a four-under-par 66.
Senior Dodge Kemmer cracked the top-20 when all was said and done, checking in with a two-under-par 208 to finish in a tie for 18th. Kemmer knocked in 13 birdies over the course of the tournament.
Freshman David Chung completed his three rounds at and even 210 to tie for 26th place, carding two under-par rounds on the first and third tries and sophomore Sihwan Kim completed play at two-over-par 212 to finish in a tie for 34th. Chung also drained an eagle on No. 16 in yesterday's first round. Kim recorded one under-par round of 69 on the first day.
Finishing out the scores for the Cardinal was senior Daniel Lim (t-50th, +5 210). Sophomore Graham Brockington and junior Jordan Cox also competed in the tournament as individuals. Brockington (t-45th) finished four-over-par 214 after notching rounds of 67-75-72 and Cox (t-67th) turned in a 69 in his second round on the way to an 11-over-par 221.
The Huskies swept the top-three individual spots to help them take the tournament crown. Nick Taylor and Darren Wallace closed out their games with seven-under-par 63s to take first and second respectively. Third-ranked USC took second place (-21) and No. 22 Arizona State finished third (-16).
Stanford will next compete in the Pac-10 Championships scheduled for April 27-29. The three-day conference tournament will be hosted by Washington at the Seattle Golf Club.

STANFORD, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Stanford men's golf team is in fifth place following the completion of two rounds today on the Stanford Golf Course in the 2009 U.S. Intercollegiate tournament. The Cardinal shot a collective nine-under-par 551 in 36 holes on the par-70 course.
Conditions were perfect on The Farm, sunny, warm, and a trace breeze, allowing for excellent playing conditions. Stanford fired an eight-under-par 272 in the first round to finish in third, before posting a one-under-par 279 to end up in fifth at the end of the day.
Sophomore Steve Ziegler, ranked No. 10 in the Golfweek collegiate rankings, turned in the best performance for Stanford, shooting a six-under-par 134 to take sole possession of third place heading into tomorrow's final round.
Senior Dodge Kemmer also carded a brilliant effort, going two-under-par 138 for the day. Freshman David Chung and sophomore Sihwan Kim are currently tied for 40th after putting up one-over-par 141s, and senior Daniel Lim is tied for 53rd with a four-over-par 144.
The Cardinal is also fielding two individuals in the tournament. Sophomore Graham Brockington barreled out of the gates with a three-under-par 67 in the first round, before marking a five-over 75 in the second to put him in a tie for 44th. Junior Jordan Cox also recorded an under-par round, shooting a one-under-par 69 in the second round combined with his 74 in the first try to put him in 52nd with a three-over par 143.
Eighth-ranked Washington is in first place after shooting ahead of the field to a 23-under-par 537. No. 3 USC follows in second place at 15-under, while No. 22 Arizona State and No. 18 UCLA are in third and fourth respectively.
Stanford will begin tomorrow's third round on holes 6-10 in the 7:30 shotgun start.
