SEATTLE - The fourth-ranked Stanford men’s golf team was unable to overtake No. 16 Arizona State for third place in the final day of competition at the Pac-10 Championships at Seattle Golf Club, as the Cardinal went on to take fourth place outright with a 17-over-par 1457 and fifth-ranked Washington cruised to the conference title by 18 strokes over second-place Oregon.
Three Stanford golfers earned top-25 individual finishes on the par-72, 6,386-yard course, led by freshman No. 46 David Chung, who finished with a two-under-par 70 to bring his cumulative total to two-over-par 290 over four rounds. Sophomore Sihwan Kim and Senior Daniel Lim each put up three-over-par 291s to finish in a tie for 16th. Kim finished with his second consecutive round of 71, aided by three birdies and an eagle on the par-5 14th hole.
Sophomore Graham Brockington completed the tournament strongly, posting his best round of one-under-par 71 to complete his nine-over-par 297 and in a tie for 35th place. Senior Dodge Kemmer followed Brockington by one stroke with a 298, and sophomore Steve Ziegler closed play at 12 over par.
Washington ran away with the lead early and never relinquished it, similar to their performance at Stanford’s U.S. Intercollegiate earlier in the month. The Huskies were the only team to finish with an under-par cumulative total, firing a 16-under-par 1424. Oregon came in second at two over par, while Arizona State squeaked into third just one stroke ahead of the Cardinal. Washington’s Darren Wallace (-11) and Nick Taylor (-7) finished first and second, respectively.

SEATTLE - The fourth-ranked Stanford men’s golf team fired its best round so far of the 2009 Pac-10 Championships, recording a one-under-par 359 in the third round today at the par-72 Seattle Golf Club. The Cardinal remain in a tie for fourth place and are 24 strokes out of first heading into tomorrow’s final round.
Stanford, now with a cumulative total of 16-over-par 1096, saw senior Daniel Lim and sophomore Sihwan Kim turn in under-par performances on the day, while freshman David Chung and sophomore Steve Ziegler carded even-par. Lim posted his second 70 of the tournament, knocking in five birdies, four on the back-nine to put him in a tie for 14th place with a two-over-par 218.
Kim and Chung are both tied for 20th place with a four-over-par 220. Kim notched his second-straight under-par performance, shooting four birdies on his way to a 71, while Chung earned his second 72 of the tournament.
Senior Dodge Kemmer fell to a tie for 26th individually after shooting a three-over-par 75 and Ziegler earned his best round of the tournament (72) to move up into a tie for 34th. Sophomore Graham Brockington also shot his best round so far, finishing up the day at two over par.
Fifth-ranked Washington still commands the leaderboard and increased its lead by two strokes by the conclusion of the day and now has a seven-shot lead over second place Oregon. The Huskies tout an eight-under-par 1072. Arizona State is only three strokes ahead of the Cardinal with a 13-over-par 1093.
Stanford will finish competition tomorrow and will begin the fourth and final round at 8:48 a.m., playing with the Sun Devils from the first tee. Live scoring and complete results are available at Golfstat.

SEATTLE - No. 4 Stanford completed two rounds of play today at the 2009 Pac-10 Championships at 6,836-yard, par-72 Seattle Golf Club, shooting a cumulative 17-over-par 737 over 36 holes to settle into a tie for fourth place.
The Cardinal have two more rounds over the next two days to catch the top of the field, led by hosts No. 5 Washington, which leads by four strokes with a plus-five 725.
Senior No., 93 Dodge Kemmer had the best outing for Stanford on the day, shooting a three-over-par 147 to rest in a tie for 18th place. Senior Daniel Lim and freshman No. 46 David Chung followed close behind, as each posted a four-over-par 148. Lim knocked in six birdies, four of which were on the back-nine, in the first round to post a two-under-par 70. Chung sunk an eagle on the par-five 14th hole and birdied twice in the first round on his way to an even-72.
Sophomores Sihwan Kim and No. 9 Steve Ziegler recorded the two next best scores for the Cardinal. Kim did not start out like he had hoped to, but bounced back in the second round with a three-under-par 69 to give him a five-over-par 149 for the day. Ziegler was consistent through his two rounds, carding a 76-75 to put him at seven-over and in a tie for 35th place. Sophomore Graham Brockington finished the day at eight-over-par.
Stanford is paired with California for tomorrow's third round, and will be teeing off from the first hole at 8 a.m. Live scoring and complete results are available at Golfstat.
