Seattle, Wash. - Stanford earned a 0-0 draw in their final road game of the 2009 Pac-10 season on Sunday afternoon at the Husky Soccer Field. The road result gives the Cardinal a record on 10-4-2 (4-3-2 Pac-10) with one game remaining on the regular season schedule.
With the tie, Stanford moved into a tie for the Pac-10 lead with UCLA, although they have played two more games. The Cardinal will be off this week before closing with a home game versus California.
John Moore was spectacular in goal again, recording his seventh shutout of the season. Moore made seven saves to keep the score sheet blank.
Washington outshot Stanford 24-7, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
The Cardinal had just two shots on goal, one from Adam Jahn and the other from Cameron Lamming.
The first half was dominated by Washington as Stanford had just one legitimate scoring chance, but a Dersu Abolfathi header sailed high. Washington had nine shots, including two on goal, but Moore was there both times.
Stanford picked things up offensively in the second half with six shots, including a pair on goal. Moore continued his clean sheet with four more saves, including one in the final minute to force overtime.
Stanford did not manage a shot in overtime, while Washington had four. The Cardinal defense remained stout, however, and preserved the tie.
The Cardinal will not play next weekend with the season finale coming November 14 at home versus California. The Saturday kick is set for 7:00 pm as the Cardinal will finish off its regular season against their arch rival.
