Denver, Colo. - In their final tune-up before the regular season, Stanford fell 3-0 to the University of Denver on Saturday afternoon from Dick's Sporting Goods Stadium. Stanford will now continue their trek east to face Lehigh in the season opener on Sept. 1.
Denver took a 1-0 first half lead when Drew Beckie found the back of the net in the 28th minute. The Pioneers then added two second half goals when Nick Brant scored in the 55th minute and Austin Baller scored just before full time in the 90th minute.
Denver outshot Stanford 16-4 with John Moore making five saves for the Cardinal.
Ryan Thomas had the only shot on goal for Stanford, doing so as a substitute.
The Cardinal will get the season going for real when they travel to Bethlehem, Penn., to face Lehigh on Sept. 1 at 4:00 pm PST.
