STANFORD, Calif. - Tight end Jim Dray was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the seventh round of the NFL Draft, which concludes today in New York City.
Dray, a second team All-Pac-10 performer as a senior in 2009, was the 233rd overall selection in the NFL Draft, giving Stanford multiple draft selections for the first time since the 2007 season.
Running back Toby Gerhart was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the second round on Friday with the 51st pick overall.
Dray becomes the first Stanford tight end selected in the draft since Alex Smith was taken in the third round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2005.
The Paramus, NJ native finished his senior season with 11 receptions for 149 yards and three touchdowns. One of the best blocking tight ends in the nation, he played an instrumental role in Stanford's rushing attack that set the school's single-season rushing record.
Of his 41 career receptions, seven were for touchdowns, including three in his final campaign.
Dray's selection puts an exclamation point on a courageous comeback from a career-threatening knee injury suffered early in the 2007 season. He played in eight games and made five starts in 2008, catching a pair of touchdown passes, before solidifying his spot atop the depth chart in 2009.
