Final Stats

Los Angeles, Calif. - A week after upsetting the UCLA at home, Stanford fell to the No. 11 Bruins, 1-0. The Cardinal dropped back to .500 on the season (7-7-0, 3-3-0 Pac-10), while UCLA improved to 10-3-1 (5-1-0 Pac-10).

The Cardinal and Bruins played to a 0-0 draw in the first half as both defenses ruled. Jason Dodson made his return from injury, making three of his seven saves in the half. Stanford was outshot 8-3 in the half, but did not allow an early goal.

The Cardinal had its chances, totaling eight shots for the game. Bobby Warshaw had three shots, including one on goal. Brian Rowe made one save and the Bruin defense did not allow the Cardinal to breakthrough with the goal it needed.

In the 72nd minute, UCLA got the game's only goal. Evan Raynr scored his third goal of the season on an assist from Eder Arreola. His shot went into the corner at the far post and Dodson was unable to get there.

The goal was all UCLA needed as its defense held strong the rest of the way. The Bruins had 19 shots for the game, including eight on goal. However, its ability to limit Stanford's chances was the key.

The Cardinal will now continue south to face San Diego State at 1:00pm on Sunday. It will be a crucial road match for Stanford as it attempts to stay in the Pac-10 race and improve its resume for a possible bid to the NCAA tournament. Friday's loss was just Stanford's third in the last 10 games.
