STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford's senior class completed a perfect home career, winning 22-straight home matches, following the top-ranked Cardinal's (8-0) 161.5-136.5 win over No. 3-ranked USC (8-2) on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Kate Dwelley closed out her Avery Aquatic career with wins in the 100 and 200 freestyles, while classmate Meg Hostage swept the diving. The team's five seniors are a combined 35-1 in their careers with the lone loss coming at Georgia its freshman year.
Hostage completed her home career with sweeps this weekend in the one and three-meter events against USC and UCLA. Her final home event, was a win over USC's Victoria Ishimatsu by .975, as the Maryland senior scored a mark of 309.975 in the one-meter. She also beat Ishimatsu (312.60) in the three-meter earlier with a score of 334.65.
Dwelley won both individual events, anchored the winning 400 free relay team and was second in the 50 free.
Dwelley began her run by winning the 200 free, despite a late charge from USC's Katka Hosszu (1:46.09), winning the race by three tenths of a second with a time of 1:45.78. Four events later, with the Cardinal beginning to pull away, Dwelley was second by three hundreths of a second (22.71) to teammate Sam Woodward (22.68) in the 50 free .
The senior then put the finishing touches on a fine afternoon, putting the contest out of reach by winning the 100 free (49.20) ahead of teammate Andi Murez and USC's Kasey Carlson, who were both second (49.48).
Freshman Maya DiRado also won two events, taking home the top times in the 100 back (54.05) and leading a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 back with a time of 1:56.85. Dirado was also second in the 200 IM (1:59.72). In the 100 back, Dirado came from behind to beat Presley Bard (54.20) by making up four tenths of a second over the final 50 yards.
Felicia Lee was also a winner for the third time on the weekend. Lee held off a late charging Yumi So from lane two to win the 200 fly, two hundreths of a second ahead of the Troy sophomore. Lee finished at 1:59.11 from the middle of the pool.
The win over the Women of Troy, who dropped both Bay Area matches this past weekend, continues a now 25-match home win streak, with the last loss coming in 2006 and current 33-match win streak, with the last loss coming in late 2007.
Today's meet was the final home matches for seniors: Hostage, Dwelley, Liz Smith, Kerry Kraemer and Kelsey Ditto.
Stanford closes out its dual schedule at California on February 12. Both diving teams will be at BYU the day before. Pac-10, Zone Diving and NCAA Championships proceed in late February and into March.
