HOUSTON, Texas-- Matthew Reckling (1-0) threw six shutout innings as No. 17-ranked Rice (1-1) evened the series with No. 10-ranked Stanford (1-1) following a 7-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
Reckling, the grandson of the T.R. Reckling—the namesake of Rice's ballpark, scattered four hits, struck out four and walked two for the win.
Chris Reed (0-1) pitched into the fifth, giving up all seven runs on eight hits. He also struck out five, as Rice built a 7-0 lead after three innings.
Austin Wilson's first career homer, a solo shot in the seventh, made it 7-1.
In the second, after Reed walked the leadoff batter and hit another with two outs, Rice scored four times to lead 4-0. Three-straight RBI singles coupled with two errors led to the Owl rally.
After an RBI groundout made it 5-0, a two-run, two-out single by Derek Hamilton made it 7-0 in the fourth.
