Cardinal Win Home Finale Over USC

STANFORD, Calif.-- No. 2-ranked Stanford (6-0) used its depth, placing two swimmers in the top-three in 11 of the 12 events, leading the Cardinal to a 162-116 win over visiting No. 8-ranked USC (6-3).

Stanford also swept the two relays, breaking a 13-year pool record in the final home event of the season—the 200 free relay.  The team of Austin Staab, Alex Coville Andrew Saeta, and Aaron Wayne touched the wall with a time of 1:19.30, breaking the 1998 relay team time of 1:19.47.

Stanford won nine individual events, also taking the second spot in the 100 free, 200 breast, 100 fly and 400 IM.

The nation's top distance swimmer, Chad La Tourette, swept the weekend, winning both the 500 and 1650 freestyles against CS Bakersfield on Friday and against the Trojans on Saturday.

La Tourette came six seconds short of the pool record, finishing nearly a lap ahead of the rest of the field, finishing at 14:52.33. La Tourette also won the 500 free, with a time of 4:25.47, holding off Clement Lefert (4:25.83) at the end to win his second event.

 Eirik Ravnan topped off the individual portion of the meet with the top time in the 200 IM with a mark of 1:50.30, followed by teammate  Matt Thompson (1:51.34).

In the 50 free, three swimmers swam under 20 seconds with Alex Coville coming in at 19.79 and USC's Vladimir Morozov second at 19.92, followed by Aaron Wayne (19.99).

In diving last week, Trojan Harrison Jones won both the one and three meter competitions with Stanford's Brent Eichenseer finishing in second. Jones tallied a score of 368.77 in the one-meter, as Eichenseer's score of 330.32 was sandwiched between Jones and Trojan Steven Starks' score of 323.47. Those results gave USC a 23-13 lead prior to the start of competiton.
