Seattle, Wash. - The Cardinal track teams ran in a pair of meets on Saturday as some athletes looked for season bests indoors at the UW Last Chance meet, while others began the outdoor season at the Cal Outdoor Opener. Stephanie Marcy highlighted the day, earning the NCAA auto standard in the 3,000 meters.

Marcy ran a career-best time of 9:13.00 to earn her trip to the NCAA Indoor Championships. The time hit the auto standard on the nail as Marcy placed fourth in a fast, competitive race. Jessica Tonn also ran extremely well with a time of 9:16.89 that was a career best. The time likely will fall just short of an NCAA berth, however.

Also earning a pr in the middle distances was Justine Fedronic in the 800 meters. Her time of 2:06.27 was an improvement, but will also likely fall just short of an NCAA qualifying time.

Other season bests were Joy O'Hare in the 400 meters as she ran 56.23 and Karynn Dunn who leaped 19-10 ¾ in the long jump.

The lone male competitor in Seattle was JT Sullivan in the mile. Sullivan ran an impressive time of 4:00.29, but it was just off the NCAA auto standard and his own personal best of 4:00.02.

In Berkeley the Cardinal got the outdoor season underway with some solid results.

Stanford had three of the top-five in the 100 meters as Mark Mueller, Colin Hepburn and Alex Lee places 3-4-5. Mueller led the way with a time of 10.88, while Hepburn ran 10.89 and Lee ran 11.07. The trio also doubled back in the 200 with Mueller winning the meet title with a time of 21.90.

Alfredo Corral also ran the 200, winning his heat in a time of 22.26. Corral was also second in the 400 with a time of 49.21.

The Cardinal men also got an event win in the middle distances as Michael Atchoo captured the 800 meters. Atchoo ran a time of 1:52.82 to just barely outlean Doug Bettisworth of Cal Poly. Also faring well in the middle distances was Marco Bertolotti in the 1,500 meters as he placed second with a time of 3:52.01.

In the field, Stanford was highlighted by Geoffrey Tabor who captured the meet title in the discus. Tabor threw 171-8 to easily capture the competition over teammate Carter Wells who was second with a toss of 155-0. Robert Hintz also added a meet title in the throws, capturing the javelin title with a toss of 202-1.

The Cardinal women had a solid showing in the 800 meters, taking spots 2-3-4. Madeline Duhon led the way with a time of 2:12.63, while Sarah McCurdy and Victoria Pennings were not far behind in times of 2:13.31 and 2:13.75.

In the field, the Cardinal were led by Eda Karesin who won the javelin competition with a toss of 162-2. Her teammate Elizabeth Minoofar was not far off, placing second with a toss of 147-8.
